Activating free SSL and resolving HTTPS warnings

web-hosting, security-ssl

Our Web Hosting product includes free SSL, allowing supported domains to use HTTPS once the certificate requirements are satisfied. HTTPS encrypts the connection between a visitor and the website and helps the browser verify the site's identity. A certificate must cover the exact hostname being visited, so the main domain, a www address and separate subdomains should be checked individually.

01 Check the certificate and domain validation

  1. Start by confirming that the domain is attached to the correct hosting account and resolves to the intended website service.
  2. Open the SSL information available in your Account Manager or cPanel to check whether the certificate is active, pending, expired or reporting a validation problem.

Certificate issuance depends on successful domain validation; creating a hosting account alone does not make every possible hostname ready immediately.

If validation fails, review the specific message. Common areas to investigate include incorrect DNS, an old address record, a validation request blocked by website rules, or a CAA policy that does not permit the issuing certificate authority. An external proxy or DNS provider may also affect the validation path. Correct the identified issue and allow the applicable certificate process to run again, rather than repeatedly changing unrelated settings.

02 Enable HTTPS and check for remaining warnings

Once the certificate is valid, configure the website to use its HTTPS address and enable an appropriate HTTP-to-HTTPS redirect. Test pages, forms and images. A mixed-content warning can occur when a secure page still requests assets using insecure URLs, even though the certificate itself is valid. If a warning persists, share the affected address and exact browser or certificate error with us. SSL protects connections; it does not by itself remove malware, correct application bugs or guarantee that a website is secure in every other respect.

What should I check when SSL validation fails?

  1. Open the service's SSL information or cPanel SSL/TLS Status, which may appear within the unified SSL/TLS Certificates interface.
  2. Check the exact domain and whether its certificate is active, expired, excluded or reporting a validation problem.
  3. Correct the identified DNS, CAA or validation-path issue, then check the issued certificate and the website's HTTPS behaviour.

Do not disable certificate verification to make an error disappear. A browser warning can concern the wrong hostname, an incomplete chain, expiry or mixed content; those require different fixes. Send the exact hostname and message so the right layer can be investigated.
