Download a CodeGuard backup to inspect its coverage, retain an approved independent copy or prepare a manual recovery. Website files and database backups need separate attention.
IN THIS ARTICLE
01 Request the download
- Open the correct site and its Restore tab.
- Find the required backup date. Use View All Backups if the point is not initially displayed.
- Open Restore Options and choose the ZIP download.
- For website files, select the required paths or the entire backup. Locate database backups separately and request their downloads as needed.
- Wait for generation and use the supplied link promptly. Generated download links expire.
02 Verify and protect
Save the archive to restricted storage and check that it opens. Inspect key application files, upload directories and the database export. Record the site, date and scope beside the file using a name that does not expose unnecessary customer information.
Common questions
Does downloading change the live site?
Requesting a copy is separate from restoring it. Be careful to select Download rather than an automated restore action.
What if the download expires?
Request a fresh generated archive through the dashboard. Do not assume the old link remains a permanent backup location.
Can I email the ZIP to a developer?
Use an approved controlled transfer. A backup can contain database credentials, customer records and private files, even when the public website looks simple.
For a large download, use a supported resumable method if required and keep any temporary signed URL out of public logs or repositories. Verify the result before cancelling an old service or deleting online history. A corrupt or incomplete local archive is not an acceptable replacement for the retained backup.
